Macy’s is Serving Up Style with 9 spicy Portland designers.
The main dish? Dining rooms, of course!
The delectable design challenge? “American Icons: People and Places.” There’s nothing more stylish than that.
You will be wowed when you see those delicious Portland downtown windows and what those designers bring to the table for Molly’s Fund Fighting Lupus.
The design goal is to pay homage to Swanky New York living, the neon lights of Broadway, cocktail culture, Wall Street Bull Market opulence, the fashion capital of the world, and the Big Apple fine dining.
Our team is led by Stefan Krupelak, who has practiced in the area for over a decade, establishing himself as one of the Northwest’s premier contemporary design voices. We at Domov love working with our clients to create luxurious, inspiring, livable spaces. We are excited to start the conversation about how we can partner with you on any range of projects, from new construction, to full-scale remodels, to furnishing and styling.
Andy Warhol said, “one’s company, two’s a crowd, and three’s a party”. And a party it is as designers George Covin and Laura Evans play with the art and expressions of Any Warhol to fashion a colorful dinner gathering featuring three guests who might have walked out of one of his diptych paintings. Drawing from another of Warhol’s quotes, “In the future everyone will be famous for 15 minutes”. Passersby will cleverly transform to become one of the party guests and begin their 15 minutes of fame.
Best friends and colleagues who first met in design school, Stephanie Dyer and Megan Millie are drawing on their combined experience in hospitality and retail design to set a stage: Partnership in Paradise. Combining a mutual love of high design and visual merchandising, the duo will examine and abstract the concept of the tropics as a destination, and its connection with intimacy. Focusing on Waikiki, one of America’s top destinations, as inspiration, Megan and Stephanie are composing a captivating environment of entirely handmade and found objects.
Fix Studio will interpret Wayne’s iconic influence on American culture inspired by his first feature role, “The Big Trail”, a widescreen story of the Oregon Trail. An early portrait of Wayne will be a giant backdrop on the wall. His image and initials will be interpreted as a graphic and a brand. The floor will include branded “JW” items and objects. Stetson style 10-gallon hats will be suspended as if flying across the display, catching the attention of passing viewers.
Brother and sister design team, Preston and Rachel Browning, owners of Salvage Works, grew up in the south, listening to classic country: Merle, Johnny, Dolly, and Loretta. They both played in country bands over the years and Rachel even sang at the classic open mic at Nashville’s famous Bluebird Cafe. “Roadhouse is their inspiration. A place to hear great music, have beer and dance till your feet are sore. Just your average all American night.
DIGS INSIDE & OUT
JJ De Sousa
In our diorama, we are attempting to capture the style, glamour and sex appeal, essentially the essence of Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn captured the hearts and minds of millions of Americans during her all too brief Hollywood career. We hope you enjoy our interpretation of a true American Icon.
The Digs Inside & Out design team is honored to participate in our 5th Serving Up Style event to benefit Molly’s Fund Fighting Lupus. JJ De Sousa is the principal designer at Digs Inside & Out for interior and garden design. It is the wish of all of those at Digs to turn your places into spaces you will love to spend time in, inside and out!
