Mission Statement

Mission

To educate the public and the medical community about lupus, to push for earlier, life-saving diagnoses for those afflicted, and to spur governments and foundations to fund research toward a cure.

Vision

The Big Picture

By 2013, Molly’s Fund Fighting Lupus is a viable, highly recognized and respected foundation that is changing the way the medical community, pharmaceutical companies, those impacted by lupus, and the general public understand the disease, its diagnosis and its treatment.

In 2013, people impacted by lupus feel better supported, treated and understood than they did five years before – a direct result of the work of Molly’s Fund Fighting Lupus. Our outreach, education, marketing and advocacy strategies assist people with lupus to seek help and receive early diagnosis and treatment. As a consequence, the mortality rate for the disease lowers.

Marketing, Outreach, and Advocacy

Molly’s Fund Fighting Lupus’ marketing, outreach and advocacy will:

  • Establish Molly’s Fund Fighting Lupus as a known leader in the fight against lupus;
  • Transform lupus into a formally recognized and treatable disease throughout the medical profession and spur insurance companies to accept the treatment regimen;
  • Attract public and political support for more research dollars in the fight against lupus, resulting in an increased number of medical advancements;
  • Forge strategic alliances with other organizations to generate increasing interest and financial support for the foundation’s work;
  • Increase public national and international appearances by board members and staff to tell our story and expand awareness of the disease and its effects.
Grant Making, Fundraising, and Brand Building

Molly's Fund Fighting Lupus' grant making program will focus on:

  • Early diagnosis and treatment of the disease;
  • Research and innovation; and
  • Awareness building and advocacy for lupus and its impacts.

Molly’s Fund Fighting Lupus will give 90% of the dollars they raise to their programs. Foundation fundraising will increase 100% over the first five years. Major corporations, individuals, and foundations will join the fight, by both giving funds and participating in our outreach efforts.

Powerful technology will create inventive approaches to fundraising, awareness building, advocacy and marketing and will build the Molly’s Fund Fighting Lupus brand in the philanthropic community.

Each year, over 20,000 people in the Portland, Oregon area will attend “Serving Up Style,” the foundation’s signature event. Meanwhile, other West Coast communities will host Serving Up Style events.

Several national and international publications will highlight the event for its innovative style and fun approach to public awareness building.

The "Butterfly" will become identified as the symbol for the fight against Lupus, much like pink has become a symbol for the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Race for a Cure for Breast Cancer.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of Molly's Fund Fighting Lupus will include leaders in the medical community, pharmaceutical companies, financial institutions, philanthropic community and the media. The board will be supported by a highly qualified, full-time staff that efficiently and effectively implements the visions and goals of the board. The board and staff will possess a deeply-rooted understanding of the budget and general accounting principles guiding the organization. This commitment, knowledge, and expertise will continue to ensure the sustainability and vitality of the foundation.
